Dinosaurs Like Velociraptor Breathed Like Penguins

Apparently Velociraptors had a breathing system which was very similar to modern Penguins. Speaking of Penguins, any of you guys seen the inside of a Penguins mouth? A Velociraptor-sized penguin, now THAT would be scary!

Jurassic Park 4 has been removed from IMDB. There have been recent interviews with San Neil and others confirming the film will happen. It could be that the listing on IMDB was simply removed due to inactivity, or could it mean JP4 simply isn’t going to happen?

Jurassic Beaver Fossil Found In China

Could this prove that some mammals evolved faster than others? That perhaps highly evolved (if you consider a beaver highly evolved) existed at the time of dinosaurs?

The discovery of a beaver-like fossil that lived when the dinosaurs ruled the Earth could challenge some currently accepted ideas on mammal evolution.

Dinosaurs Lured Mates With Bony Adornments

65 Million years of evolution and many women still find them interesting…

Philip Currie, a paleontologist at the University of Alberta, said “it’s generally conceded that these horns on the face and the frill were to make [the dinosaurs] attractive to potential mates.”

Yes, I’m well aware this isn’t real, but it’s still fun to read while we wait for the real-deal.

Jurassic Park The Game – Telltale Games

FINALLY! Almost 20 years later a game that recreates the feel of the movie! While Jurassic Park lends itself to action based games, adventure is where the magic lies. Telltale in trying to be true to the movie spent several years talking to Paleontologists, researching behavior and trying to get things just right. This is a living, breathing island, getting it right can be extremely difficult. Telltale didn’t rest on it’s laurels with this this game, coming up with new/scary dinosaurs that are exclusive to the game.

Jurassic Park – My Memory Of The Classic

In 1993 a movie came out that changed me, the effect it had was profound and one that would last the rest of my life. Jurassic Park is the type of movie that changes you, it effects you at a primal level. I went to it on opening night, not really knowing the backstory or having even heard of the book by the same name. I thought the commercial looked interesting, but really had no pre-conceived notion as to what I was going to see or how I would be forever affected by what Michael Crichton, Steven Spielberg and Stan Winston Studios had created.

Jurassic Park doesn’t start by shocking you with special effects, instead it pulls you into the experience. The first glimpse of what’s to come is that of a docile Brachiosaurus grazing on the top of a tree. Just that initial glimpse is enough to make your jaw drop to the floor. The paleontologist, Alan Grant is noticeably shaken and falls to his knees. Somehow his feelings are transposed onto you. I remember feeling so completely in awe, shocked to actually be viewing what to me looked so unbelievably real. When he turns and looks out over the lake filled with Dinosaurs, I knew then this was going to be something that would change me forever…

“How did you do this?” Grant asks, “I’ll show you.” is Hammonds response. I was glued to my chair. Shifting to a video that explained how mosquitos sucked the blood of dinosaurs some 65 million years ago. Then trapped in amber preserving their bodies and the blood they had feasted on. It all felt so perfectly plausible, mosquitos did suck the blood of dinosaurs, their bodies frequently ended up in amber and they would most definitely be preserved. Could they really bring them back? Did we have the technology to make this happen? Could Jurassic Park really become a reality?

Leaving the theatre on opening night was a journey back into a world that would never be the same. I didn’t talk for at least an hour just trying to take in what I had witnessed. I walked home that afternoon, while passing over a bridge I paused looking out over the scene before me. A river bordered by vegetation, in my minds eye I could see dinosaurs grazing on the trees before me, reminiscent of the scene I had just witnessed. Dinosaurs really did exist and even though we’ll never see them, it’s amazing to think what it must have been like.

In total I saw the movie 13 times in the theatre. Near the end I would watch other people as they reacted to the scenes I’d seen so many times. Watching their reaction became as interesting as the movie before me. I purchased JurassicPark.org in 2000 after running a successful Jurassic Park fan site. Unfortunately the time never came wherein I could develop the site I so wanted to create. None of the sequels came anywhere near giving me the experience I had with the first movie. I think that in very real sense prevented me from working on the site.

Now with Jurassic Park IV coming next year, and having once again watched the first movie – I feel compelled to develop the site again. I’ll be compiling everything I can about Jurassic Park IV, Michael Crichton, Steven Spielberg, and the actors in the upcoming film. I’ll also bring you any and all Dino discoveries, news and more. Lets see if Spielberg can once again affect me and millions of others like he did back in 1993.

What are your memories of this classic? How did Jurassic Park affect you?
